Vintage Persian Tabriz "Aquatic Star" Estate Carpet (Circa 1940s)

Step into a world of serene elegance with this breathtaking 1940s Tabriz masterpiece. While Tabriz is famous for its intricate, dense floral patterns, this specific vintage piece is a rare "minimalist" treasure. It utilizes vast expanses of color and clean geometric lines to create a sense of tranquility and space—a design choice that was remarkably ahead of its time.

Why It’s Unique

This Tabriz is distinguished by its extraordinary use of negative space and its rare "watery" color transitions.

  • The "Floating" Roundel Medallion: The centerpiece is a perfectly balanced roundel medallion with a unique trefoil (three-lobed) contoured perimeter. Tiny, diminutive finials encircle the entire medallion like a crown, creating a delicate, lace-like edge that appears to float on the field.

  • Oversized Compass Finials: At the opposing ends of the vertical axis, the medallion extends into two larger, oversized finials. These bold architectural elements act as a visual compass, giving the rug a grand sense of direction and scale.

  • "Watery" Blue Open Field: The most striking feature of this rug is its expansive "open field." This area is rich with heavy artisan abrash—intentional horizontal color shifts that create the appearance of sunlight rippling across water. The field transitions seamlessly through shades of aqua blue and sky blue.

  • Modern Metallic Palette: The cool blues are grounded by sophisticated notes of coffee brown, antique ivory, and oxidized silver. This "mineral" color story is incredibly easy to integrate into modern interiors that favor cool tones and natural light.

Condition & Heritage

Recently professionally cleaned, this grand 8'9" x 12'3" estate carpet is in excellent structural condition. It exhibits perfectly even wear across to the knot heads, resulting in a smooth, low-profile pile that is ideal for placement under large furniture or in high-traffic areas where a flat, clean look is desired.

The original side cord selvages remain beautifully intact, and the ends are fully secured. As a genuine 80-year-old textile, it carries the soul of the 1940s while offering the durability of a master-woven Tabriz.
