Vintage Persian Heriz "Serrated Sunburst" Grand Carpet (Circa 1940s)

Bring the legendary durability and bold geometric artistry of Northwest Persia into your home with this magnificent 1940s Heriz carpet. Known as the "Iron Rugs of Persia," Heriz carpets are celebrated for their resilient construction and their unique ability to bridge the gap between tribal spontaneity and sophisticated architectural design. At over 11 feet long, this piece is a commanding "anchor" rug designed for high-traffic, high-style living.

Why It’s Unique

This Heriz is distinguished by its oversized geometric scale and a rare, "metallic" color evolution.

  • Large-Scale Concentric Medallion: The centerpiece is a massive, multi-layered medallion that dominates the field. Adorned at either end by sharp, serrated palmettes, this "sunburst" geometry provides a powerful focal point that defines the entire room.

  • Geometric Botanical Field: The field is "covered" in a dense arrangement of germinating buds and serrated leaves. Unlike the curvy lines of city rugs, these motifs are rendered in a bold, "stepped" geometric relief that gives the rug its signature rugged and masculine character.

  • Turtle Samovar Border: The main border features the iconic "Turtle" or Samovar design—a series of interconnected vines and stylized motifs that represent longevity and hospitality. This wide, intricate border acts as a stately frame for the expansive central design.

  • The "Cherry & Silver" Palette: This rug features a spectacular color story. The traditional warmth of cherry red and slate blue is elevated by a rare spectrum of "cool" tones, including platinum, silver, and oxidized silver. Accents of dusty powder blue, beige, and sand create a sophisticated, multi-dimensional look.

Condition & Heritage

Recently professionally cleaned and ready for immediate use, this 80-year-old textile is a testament to the longevity of Heriz craftsmanship. It exhibits even wear across to the knot heads, creating a smooth, low-profile surface that is as durable as it is beautiful.

The sides and ends have been fully secured, and most of the original side cord selvages are intact or expertly restored. This is a robust, room-sized masterpiece built to withstand several more generations of use.
