Antique Persian Farahan Sarouk "Sunburst Medallion" Carpet (Circa 1910s)

Capture the refined elegance of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras with this exquisite Antique Farahan Sarouk. Farahan Sarouks are among the most historically significant Persian carpets, prized by 19th-century aristocrats for their sophisticated designs and superior craftsmanship. This piece, dating to the 1910s, is a masterclass in balance, offering a harmonious blend of crisp geometry and soft, botanical detailing.

Why It’s Unique

This Farahan Sarouk is distinguished by its architectural medallion and a rare, "sun-drenched" color story.

Oversized Tiered Medallion: The rug is anchored by a massive center medallion with a sharply ornamented, enveloped perimeter. It is further distinguished by unique "double-tiered" finials wrapped in serrated leaves—a design that provides a powerful sense of movement and directionality.

Botanical "Top-View" Details: The ivory field is "covered" with a dense arrangement of blossoms viewed from above, with delicate buds stemming outward. This perspective gives the rug a lush, garden-like texture that remains grounded by its strong central geometry.

Refined Neutral Palette: Unlike the heavy reds often found in later Sarouks, this antique piece features an elegant ivory ground. It is accented by a sophisticated palette of deep blush, dusty teal, and powder blue, with earthy notes of chestnut and a rare, faded sunflower yellow.

The Farahan Pedigree: Known for having a thinner, more supple handle than standard Sarouks, the Farahan weave allows for much higher detail in the floral motifs, which is evident in the needle-point precision of the serrated leaves.

Condition & Antique Character

Recently professionally cleaned, this century-old treasure possesses a soft, "hushed" patina. It displays even wear across the knot heads with a faint whisper of the foundation showing through—a texture that gives the rug a low-profile, authentic antique feel.

Note: As a genuine hand-knotted textile from the 1910s, this piece features a light, very faint color migration from the pale reds and oranges into the adjacent ivory field. This natural blending is a common hallmark of antique vegetable dyes, serving as a signature of its age and authenticity. Additionally, there is a minor hand-woven variation in width (6'11" to 7'1"), which is within normal margins for an artisan piece of this scale.
