Antique Persian "American Sarouk" Lustrous Garden Carpet (Circa 1920s)

Immerse your space in the opulence of the Roaring Twenties with this magnificent "American Sarouk." Woven in Persia during the 1920s specifically for the high-end Western market, these carpets became the gold standard for luxury in grand American estates. This piece is a quintessential example of the era, offering a dense, plush weave and the regal "painted" finish that made Sarouks world-famous.

Why It’s Unique

This Sarouk is distinguished by its high-luster finish and its status as a preserved piece of textile history.

Period-Correct "Painted" Technique: In the early 20th century, the finest Sarouks underwent a specific artisan "painting" process to deepen their jewel tones. This rug is a stunning survivor of that tradition, boasting the deep, resonant saturation that defines the most collectible American Sarouks.

Radiant High-Luster Pile: Crafted from premium wool, the pile possesses a remarkable high luster. This natural sheen allows the colors to shift and glow under different lighting conditions, giving the rug a dynamic, liquid-like appearance across its surface.

Abundant Floral Bouquets: The field is an "all-over" celebration of botanical art, densely covered in elegant floral sprays and blossomed bouquets. Without a central medallion, this layout offers maximum versatility for furniture placement, allowing the "garden" to peek out beautifully from under a dining table or seating group.

Jewel-Tone Depth: The palette is a rich tapestry of raspberry red, sapphire blue, and ruby red, accented by refreshing notes of jade green. These deep, traditional colors provide a sense of warmth and permanence to any room.

Condition & Quality

This 100-year-old antique has been professionally cleaned and is in exceptional condition for its age. It features a mostly even short pile that feels substantial and smooth underfoot.

Note: As an authentic hand-knotted treasure, this rug displays "white knots" scattered across the main field—a natural characteristic of the cotton foundation peaking through the wool, which serves as a hallmark of its handmade origin. The original side cord selvages are mostly intact or restored, and the piece features a slight natural contour to its shape, consistent with the artisan village-weaving process of the 1920s.
