Antique Persian Sarouk "Painted Garden" Carpet (Circa 1910s)
Step into the golden age of Persian weaving with this exceptional "Painted" Sarouk. Dating to the 1910s, this carpet is a quintessential example of the prestigious Sarouk style that became a global symbol of luxury. With its lush floral imagery and deep, saturated palette, it offers the substantial weight and artistic "soul" that only a century-old antique can provide.
Why It’s Unique
This Sarouk is a rare period-correct painted rug, a designation highly prized by collectors for its specific historical finishing technique.
Authentic "Painted" Heritage: During this era, Sarouks were often "painted" by master artisans to deepen their jewel tones and enhance their visual drama. This piece is a genuine survivor of that tradition, displaying the deep, resonant colors that defined high-end 1910s décor.
Cascading Floral Sprays: The field is densely "covered" in elegant floral sprays. Unlike medallion rugs, this all-over arrangement allows the pattern to flow seamlessly across the room, making it an incredibly versatile choice for placement under furniture.
Palmette & Meandering Vine Border: The rug is beautifully framed by a classic main border featuring a "palmette" design—a stylized lotus or fan-shaped flower—connected by a graceful meandering vine.
A Rare "Raspberry" Palette: The color story is anchored by a stunning raspberry red and deep navy blue. This foundation is brightened by botanical accents of dusty jade green, emerald, and dusty saffron yellow, with chocolate brown providing architectural depth.
Condition & Antique Character
Recently professionally cleaned, this rug possesses a magnificent antique patina. It displays varying areas of pile and knot heads, consistent with its 110-year history.
Note: This piece features a few areas of "white knots" and several areas of "dropped wefts," which appear as faint, natural wear lines on the face of the rug. These are hallmarks of an authentic hand-knotted antique and add to its storied character. There is a slight natural contour to the shape, which is within the normal margin for its age and origin.
