Vintage Persian Mehriban "Cypress Lattice" Rug (Circa 1930s)

Bring the architectural beauty of a Persian garden into your home with this stunning hand-knotted Mehriban rug. Dating back to the 1930s, this piece is a masterclass in structured elegance, featuring a rare geometric layout that feels both ancient and remarkably sophisticated.

Why It’s Unique

This Mehriban rug is distinguished by its dynamic diagonal composition and rich, "charcoal-and-rust" color story.

The Diagonal Lattice: Unlike traditional vertical or medallion layouts, the field is covered in a diagonally oriented lattice of serrated vines. This create a sense of movement and energy that draws the eye across the entire length of the carpet.

Symbolism of Growth: Within each lattice panel, you’ll find "germinating" blossoms, cypress trees (symbolizing eternal life), and budding fruit. It is a visual representation of abundance and renewal.

The "Boteh" Border: The minor borders feature a charming, repeating seed and boteh (the ancestor of the paisley) design, framing the central field with a rhythmic, traditional touch.

A Rare Moody Palette: The colors are deep and grounded, featuring a striking charcoal base paired with chestnut and madder root rust. These "warm-meets-cool" tones are accented by pops of pale gold, soft dusty rose, and powder blue.

Condition & Quality

Professionally cleaned and ready for its next century of life, this rug is in excellent vintage condition. It displays mostly even wear to the knot heads, providing a smooth and authentic patina. The side cord selvages are mostly original or restored, and the ends are fully secured, ensuring it is sturdy enough for high-traffic areas.
