Mild Mesclun Salad Mix
The Mild Mesclun Mix is a curated gourmet blend of premium salad greens, specifically selected for those who prefer a sweet, delicate palate over bitter or spicy notes. This mix offers a beautiful balance of diverse colors and crisp textures, making it an effortless way to grow a professional-style "house salad" right in your backyard.
Seed & Planting Care
Mesclun is one of the easiest crops to grow and is perfect for small spaces, containers, or traditional garden beds.
-
Sowing Method: Direct sow seeds into well-worked soil. For a continuous harvest, use succession planting by sowing a new row every 10–14 days.
-
Sowing Depth: Lightly cover seeds with about 1/8" of fine soil. These seeds require consistent moisture to germinate but should not be buried deeply.
-
Light Requirements: Thrives in full sun, but can benefit from partial shade during the heat of mid-summer to prevent the greens from becoming tough.
-
Ideal Temperature: These greens flourish in the cool weather of spring and fall.
Growing & Harvest Profile
-
Growth Habit: Fast-growing greens that can be planted densely for "cut-and-come-again" harvesting.
-
Flavor Profile: Exclusively mild and sweet—free from the sharp peppery or bitter flavors found in more pungent mixes.
-
Visual Appeal: A vibrant tapestry of light greens, deep reds, and varying leaf shapes ranging from smooth to frilled.
Harvest Tip
For the most tender "baby leaf" salad, begin harvesting when the leaves reach 3–4” in length. Using clean shears, cut the plants about an inch above the soil line; this leaves the growing crown intact so the plants can regrow for multiple pickings.
